Home care services are becoming increasingly popular amongst families who have senior family members living with them. With the cost of admitting their loved ones to care homes or assisted living facilities being quite high, and the lack of infrastructure within the government facilities limiting the amount of support which is accessible.  

Not all care plans need to be complex and in-depth, sometimes companionship, feeding, cleaning and dressing is all that is required.  

Who provides home care services? 

Depending on the patient's needs, different levels of healthcare assistants can be assigned to you: 

  • Registered Nurses - This employee would be ideally suited to more complex cases, such as administering medication, intervention, and specialist care such as stoma bags.  

  • Enrolled Nurse - These caregivers would offer a more medically led care plan, which includes monitoring the patients' vitals, and adjusting care to suit the patients' needs at any given moment.  

  • Caregiver - This is an entry level role and would provide basic care such as feeding, dressing, fall prevention etc. 

It's important to remember that nurses who provide care at home services need to be completely compliant with the processes and standards laid out by SANC. These standards ensure that our patients are treated with respect, empathy, professionalism and a receive a high-quality nursing service.  

How much do home care services cost? 

This largely depends on the type of care required, the length of care per day, and the frequency of our visits.  

As we provide care for a wide range of conditions, the level of employee which we place with you will have an impact on the cost. For a weekday shift, the cost ranges from R58 to R243 per hour, excluding VAT. 

There is an assessment fee of R950 excluding vat, which would be an in-depth assessment of your needs, at which end we will make recommendations and provide you with a care plan.  

What home care services are covered by medical aid? 

Homecare services are covered by most leading medical aids. The type or cover depends largely on the plan you are on. So be sure to call your medical aid to see whether they cover home care on the scheme to which you are subscribed.  

Importantly, we do not claim from medical aid: we will invoice you directly, and you then will claim back from your medical scheme.
