Indemnity insurance, although not compulsory, is a basic essential for any registrant. Not only has this become a regular client requirement, this will offer nurses and locums coverage for legal help in case of a lawsuit, any legal issues and protecting their assets in the event of a complaint.

Indemnity insurance, is a basic essential for registrants and a contractual requirement for most agency staff. It can be seen as malpractice insurance cover. An example of such an incident, is when a patient sues a nurse due to alleged negligence. 

This applies to any Registered Professional Nurse, Midwife and Locum who provides nursing care in the private sector and any general nurse providing care or education in a setting other than as a full time salaried government employee in the public sector.

The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) is a voluntary organisation for South African nurses and midwifery professionals. DENOSA aims to safeguard and promote the dignity, rights, and socio-economic status of members in the nursing profession.

  • PSA

The PSA has secured professional indemnity insurance cover for its nurses medical technologist and health workers of R1 million per individual member per year at no additional cost to the member. The professional indemnity insurance cover is part and parcel of the PSA membership fee.
